المستخلص

The study aimed to reveal the level of emotional schemas, difficulties in emotion regulation, and suicidal rumination among high school students addicted to social networking sites, and to reveal the differences between males and females in the level of emotional schemas, difficulties in emotion regulation, and suicidal rumination, and to determine the relationship between emotional schemas and difficulties in emotion regulation. and suicidal rumination, finally revealing the direct effect of emotional schemas on suicidal rumination, and the indirect effect in the presence of emotion regulation difficulties as a mediator. The study sample consisted of (n=136) male and female secondary school students addicted to social networking sites. Their ages ranged between (16-18) years with an average age of (16,397) and a standard deviation of (0.548). The researcher used the Emotion Schema Scale - the shortened version (LESS-II) (prepared by: Leahy et al., 2012, translation and Arabization: Abdul Hamid, 2022), and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale - the modified version DERS- 16 (prepared by: Bjureberg et al., 2016, translation and Arabization : Abadi et al., 2019), the Suicidal Rumination Scale (prepared by: Rogers et al., 2021, translated by the researcher), and the Social Media Addiction Scale (a diagnostic scale) prepared by the researcher. The study found a high level of negative emotional schemas, difficulties in emotion regulation, and suicidal rumination among members of the study sample. There are no differences between males and females in the level of emotional schemas (sub-dimensions/total score), suicidal rumination (sub-dimensions/total score), and difficulties in emotion regulation in the total score and in the sub-dimensions, with the exception of the (goal) dimension, for which it was proven that there are statistically significant differences at the level of 0. 01 in the female direction. The study also found a statistically significant positive relationship at the 0.01 level between emotional schemas (subdimensions/total score) and difficulties in emotion regulation (subdimensions/total score) and suicidal rumination (subdimensions/total score), and the presence of a direct effect of emotional schemas in suicidal rumination had a rate of 33.7%, and an indirect effect of 22.6% in the presence of difficulties in emotion regulation as a mediator.
Keywords: difficulties in emotion regulation, emotional schemas, suicidal rumination, social media addicts, secondary school students.
