Abstract One of the world’s environmental concerns is Global Warming. This issue generated from releasing the unwanted gaseous streams into the atmosphere by flaring resulting in producing harmful gases which have negative effect on environment, economy, human health and other living organisms. By applying this issue on our industrial environment specially in Oil & Gas Industry, it’s found that a huge amount of these unwanted gases including (Sulfur compounds, NOx, CO, CO2…etc.) is emitted to the atmosphere every hour. This occurs due to (safety purposes, pressure relief at abnormal conditions and blowing undesired gases from the process). Instead of burning these gases, utilization them in many applications is more valuable for environment & economy specially these streams contain great percentage of high valuable hydrocarbons. These applications include (power generation, liquefaction and LPG production, reduction reactions and biochemical conversion). This thesis describes and simulates the process of CO2 recovery from process gas included in Direct Reduction Plant (DRP) located in Suez Steel Co. (SSC). Optimization of the recovery of CO2 from gas stream is also involved to achieve the highest percentage of recovery with the optimum parameters. Also, it summarizes the CO2 utilization applications and requirements for each application and provides how to select most suitable applications based on the actual practice. Finally, simulation and results of integration between CO2 recovery unit in DRP and methanol pro duction plant and economic evaluation of the methanol plant which utilizes waste CO2 with ROI and Payback period calculations. |
