Abstract

This case-control study, conducted at Menoufia University Hospitals,
provides a comprehensive analysis of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a
cohort of 100 patients undergoing coronary angiography. The primary
focus of this study is the association between the Estrogen receptor 2 gene
(rs4986938) polymorphism and the incidence of premature CAD.
The findings reveal a substantial prevalence of CAD in the studied
population, highlighting its continued prominence as a major
cardiovascular health concern. Notably, the genetic investigations
uncovered significant associations between the genetic variant rs4986938
and both CAD and sex. These insights into the genetic aspects of CAD
highlight the importance of identifying specific genetic markers to improve
early diagnosis and targeted treatment options for CAD patients.
While the study also examines demographic, clinical, and modifiable
cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and
overweight, these are given less emphasis in light of the primary focus on
genetic associations. The results underscore the complex interplay of
factors contributing to CAD pathogenesis and the necessity of a
multifaceted approach in CAD prevention and management.
