Abstract Blastocystis hominis is a unicellular protozoan. It is one of the most prevalent enteric protists in human fecal samples from either symptomatic or asymptomatic individuals worldwide. It is being one of the opportunistic pathogens in immunocompromised patients as in the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Metronidazole (MTZ) remains the primary therapeutic option against B. hominis, despite its side effects that are not tolerated by many patients in addition to emerging resistance. Thus, many studies are designed for detecting anti-Blastocystis therapeutic alternatives. |
