Abstract

This case-control study was conducted to investigate the association between RAGE genes polymorphisms and Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Egyptian patients in AL-Raghy Liver Hospital, Assuit University Hospitals.Ninety patients diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) were recruited for this study from outpatient department of El-Raghey Liver Hospital, Assiut University, Egypt, informed and consented (according to the guidelines of the ethical committee of Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University), with 19 (21%) presenting Crohn’s disease and 71 (79%) diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Their ages ranged from 18 to 71 years. They included 35 male patients and 55 female patients. Eighty-one apparently healthy individuals were included in this study as the control group for comparison They included 38 males and 43 females, their ages ranged from 18 to 64 years. The following specific investigations were done for all the studiedgroups: Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA): Anti- Saccharomyces Cerevisiae(ASCA IgA) by ELISA: Anti- Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (ASCA IgG) by ELISA: RAGE −374 T>A (rs1800624)& -429T/C (rs1800625) SNP analysis by PCR-RFLP.
