Abstract status epilepticus SE represents a medical emergency that is associated with a high morbidity and mortality. The most accepted definition of SE is a condition during which epileptic activity persists for 30 min or longer or is repeated frequently enough that the individual does not regain consciousness between seizures. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether convulsive SE causes brain damage or not, based on the serum levels of NSE and S100B protein and to determine the correlation between the serum NSE and the duration of SE and the number of antiepileptic drugs needed to contro SE. Brain injury in convulsive SE is common and may be under recognized. So, evaluation of these biomarkers should be a routine step in CSE patients’ management. |
