Abstract

Spontaneous vaginal delivery is the optimum outcome for any pregnancy. Prediction of mode of delivery, particularly identification of pregnant women at risk for Cesarean delivery, has the potential to improve pregnancy outcomes and women’s satisfaction with their childbirth experience (Yeo and Romero, 2009). The first stage of labor is defined as the duration from onset of true labor pain to full cervical dilatation. To assess labor progress during this stage, a clinical examination has traditionally been done, together with intermittent maternal and fetal monitoring. The diagnosis of arrest of labor and decisions regarding the timing or type of intervention rely mostly on digital evaluation of cervical dilatation and fetal head station and position (Caughey et al.,2014).
