Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem The prevalence of hypertension was 29.5% of the population in adults above 18 years of age in Egypt. Only 25% of women and 12% of men have controlled hypertension. Health coaching can improve the adherence to lifestyle modification and medications for hypertension control.
The researches of health coaching for patients with hypertension in Egypt are scarce. This research is carried out to improve the health outcomes in patients with hypertension by health coaching for hypertension control among hypertensive patients attending primary health care settings in Port Said governorate.
The study design was quasi-experimental study. The study had 2 arms: an intervention group (70) was received health coaching sessions and phone calls and Control group (71) was received the usual care. The study was carried out at three PHC settings in Port Said governorate affiliated to the Egypt health care authority, which were Al-Arab, Al-Kuwait, Al-Gawhara PHC settings.
Data was taken from participants with uncontrolled hypertension, aged 18 years or more, diagnosed with hypertension for at least 1 year and had been prescribed antihypertensive medication, one or two days per week from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PHC settings from July 2020 to November 2021.
Personal and medical history, the 8-item Morisky medication adherence scale (MMAS), and hypertension self-care activity level effects (H-SCALE), blood pressure measurements were obtained.
In current study, about half of patients (51.8%) were males, most of them aged ≥ 60 years old (65.2%), mean age was 61.90 ± 8.41. The majority of patients (77.3%) were married, 46.8% had secondary school only or
