Abstract Muscle resection or plication is a common treatment for strabismus by strengthening the muscle. Lateral rectus muscle resection is a basic surgical technique for correcting residual esotropia which has the disadvantage of irreversible removal of apart from the muscle and cut off ciliary vessels which may cause anterior segment circulation disruption. Plication technique is muscle-to-muscle suturing. It is an alternative surgical technique to resection with more possibility of preserving vessels, less surgical complications, less difficult and less time-consuming than the resection method. The goal of this study is to compare the result of lateral rectus plication versus lateral rectus resection in patients with residual esotropia . This is a prospective, comparative, randomized interventional study which was carried on 40 eyes of 20 patients with residual esotropia who attended out patient squint clinic of Tanta university ophthalmology hospital in the period from December 2021 to December 2022. All the patients underwent surgery to both eyes, they were divided into two groups according to surgical technique. |
