Abstract

Cucumber is considered one of the most important vegetable crops that grow under greenhouses in most parts of the world and in the Middle East region. It is even considered the first crop in greenhouses due to the high yield resulting from it because it does not compete with open cultivations during its production period inside the greenhouses. On the other hand, the production of cucumber in the open field does not last long in the markets due to its association with certain temperatures suitable for its production, and this has led to the success of cultivating cucumber in the protected cultivation system and the availability of the product almost throughout the year, especially in the period from December to the end of April. Moreover, the cucumber is characterized by rapid growth inside the greenhouse compared to other crops as its harvest begins 25-30 days after planting, and the number of collection periods is many, and its prices are fairly fixed during the harvest period. There are many environmental factors and agricultural processes that affect the production of cucumber under greenhouses, such as fertilization, irrigation, pruning, sterilization, soil pH, protected environmental conditions, spraying with some nutrients and growth regulators, pollination, planting and harvesting dates, plant density, types of plastic mulch and cultivars, ...... etc. It has been shown from previous studies that it is possible to improve fruit setting and productivity of the cucumber crop by applying the latest research findings in this regard.
