Abstract : In this study, out of all the isolates that were collected from different sections of the hospital, fifty-five samples were identified as CoNS, representing three groups according to the source as follows: Environmental samples (n=32), healthcare workers samples (n=14), clinical infection samples (n=9). The susceptibility to several antibiotics as well as to antiseptics such as benzalkonium chloride (BC), cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and chlorhexidine digluconate (CHDG) was investigated. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique was used for the identification of antiseptic and antibiotic resistance genes in identified CoNS isolates. Genes that confer antiseptic resistance (qac A/B, smr, qac J, qac G, and qac H) were used. Genes for antibiotic resistance (mecA, mupA, and mupB) were used. API-Staph system identification of 25 CoNS species was used. SPSS program performs statistical analysis of the results. |
