Abstract

Scientific research on the management of ovarian insufficiency, including infertility due to aging or insults, has been ongoing since the early 1950s. Initially, it was believed that ovaries are not capable of renewal. However, in 2004, studies with mice challenged this notion and suggested that the ovarian reserve may not be fixed during the perinatal period. Subsequent studies have shown that ovarian aging may be reversible.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated source of platelets obtained through centrifugation of peripheral blood. Platelets contain multiple proteins, including cytokines, hormones, and chemoattractants for stem cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. These proteins are responsible for various post-translational modifications of multiple bioactive factors. PRP also contains numerous growth factors that are released upon activation of alpha granules by native or exogenous molecules like thrombin, collagen, magnesium, and calcium chloride.
