Abstract
In this thesis, different lossless data compression methods will be discussed. Two approaches are proposed to improve the efficiency of the data compression through cascading any of the two approaches or both of them with Lempel-Ziv method. Thesis shows also the results of compressing different types of data files (text-audio-scientific) using the two approaches, and compare their results with the results of compressing the same data files using either Lempel-Ziv method alone or after cascading it with the binary masking method. The results show an enhancement in compression efficiency using the two approaches in conjunction with an improvement in processing time for text and scientific data files
