Abstract In this work, a series of cationic surfactants based on fatty amines and alkyl chlorides were synthesized. The chemical structures of the prepared cationic surfactants were elucidated using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR), mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Also, the surface and thermodynamic properties of the prepared cationic surfactants have been studied. The copper complexes were prepared via complexion the first series compounds with CuCl2.The performance of these cationic surfactants as microfouling agents against Gram +ve, Gram - ve bacteria and fungi were evaluated. The results of the biocidal activities revealed highly potent action of the synthesized compounds toward bacteria and fungi |
