Abstract

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) is a collective term that includes a number of clinical complaints involving the muscles of mastication, the TMJ, and/or associated orofacial structures. One of the most controversial topics in our profession is that whether a correlation exists between TMD and the different kinds of functional and/or static malocclusions. The aim: the first aim of the current study was to investigate the most common diagnostic features of TMD patients, second to investigate three dimensionally using CBCT imaging, the position, inclination and dimensions of the TMJ bony components in addition to the condyle-fossa relationship in a sample of subjects with different signs and symptoms of TMD. Furthermore, to correlate the clinical and CBCT findings with the anteroposterior (AP) static, dental and skeletal malocclusions as well as functional occlusion. METHODS: A sample of one hundred TMD patients participated in the present study. History taking and clinical examination was performed as recommended by RDC/TMD for every patient. The total sample was divided into five groups based on diagnosis according to RDC/TMD as follows:group 1 (DDWR&M): Patients diagnosed with disc dislocation with reduction and masticatory muscle disorder (either unilateral or bilateral)
