Abstract Background: End-stage renal disease is linked to alterations in thyroid hormone levels and/or metabolism, resulting in specially a high prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism. There is association between hypothyroidism and atherosclerosis and among patients on long term chronic HD, FT3 level is associated with the degree of carotid atherosclerosis and there is rule of inflammation in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in hemodialysis population. Aim of work: The aim of this work is to study the association between thyroid hormones levels and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with ESRD on regular HD. Conclusion: there is inverse correlation between Thyroid hormones levels and carotid atherosclerosis in patients on regular hemodialysis |
