Abstract Technology has proven to have significant impacts on societies where they are introduced. In the light of that, the research discusses the influence of the photovoltaic (PV) technology has caused on dwellings of the remote desert areas. Such areas are inherited with their strict cultural traditions and lifestyle patterns; as a result of their isolation and tight social cohesion. The research follows a theoretical-led case study methodology applied on Qārrat {u02BE}Um - Āsaġīr Village using different methods of field survey data gathering. The research analysis reveals important factors of the house form and use, which have been affected by the PV technology. Eventually, it suggests novel recommendations that might contribute in a better use of such technologies with less cultural and social impacts on the form and use of dwellings; as well as communities |
