Abstract Background: Nurses motivation is one of the essential needs in the health care organizations, which increase the importance to promote motivational behavior to maintain effectiveness and development. Educational program about motivation will provide positive outcomes. Aim: to investigate the effect of educational program about motivation for nurse unit managers on their behavior and staff nurses engagement. Design: A quasi experimental design was used in this study. Sample: composed of two convenient samples of 22 nurse unit managers and of 50 staff nurses. Setting: The study was carried out in intensive care unit at new El Kasr El Aini teaching hospital. Tools: three tools for data collection were used: motivation knowledge questionnaire, motivational behavior observational check list & work engagement questionnaire. Results: There was a highly statistical significance difference in total knowledge test scores and in mean scores of total motivational behavior among nurse unit managers during different periods of assessment. Also, a statistical significance difference in mean scores of total work engagement among staff nurses during different periods of assessment. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was statistical positive correlation between nurse unit managers motivation knowledge and their motivational behavior immediately post program that could lead to improve staff nurses engagement level at three months post program implementation. Recommendation: provide adequate education for nurse managers at different managerial level about applying motivational behavior. |
