Abstract Coronary tortuosity is a predictor of inaccuracy in the evaluation of a lesion’s obstruction degree in coronary angiography. Coronary tortuosity is a challenging problem during coronary angioplasty, and it is related to several complications, such as vessel dissection, stent loss and even acute arterial occlusion. The aim of this study is to perform a detailed study to assess the coronary tortuosity as a cause of ischemic chest pain regarding demographic data of patients with normal coronary angiography. The study is descriptive observational comparative study and was conducted on 116 patients who were admitted and underwent invasive coronary angiography. A statistically significant difference regarding coronary dominance in significant versus insignificant tortuosity. Left coronary dominance and co-dominance showed no statistically significant difference (p-values are .182 and .021, respectively). Right coronary dominance was statistically significantly higher in insignificant tortuosity (p-value = .002). Right coronary dominance was present in 27 (96.4%) in insignificant tortuosity versus 61 (69.3%) in significant tortuosity while both left coronary dominance and co-dominance were present in 1 (3.6%) in insignificant tortuosity versus 27 (30.7%) in significant tortuosity. |
