Abstract

Preserving cultural heritage from human and natural disasters and improper preservation are essential aspects that should be carried out throughout the life of heritage buildings. Accordingly, asset management has been used to get the most value out of an asset by striking the right balance between accurate recording and performance optimization. In recent years, new technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and laser scanning have been introduced and applied in different applications. However, many challenges may affect those technologies due to lack of knowledge, inexperienced team, and change resistance. Integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM), Chatbot, and Blockchain technologies can be used in asset management. In addition, they aid in improving security issues in data captured from the user and make it easier for the user to update the BIM model. This research proposes a data-driven Chatbot framework based on Blockchain technology to manage maintenance activities via Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. The proposed framework assists government authorities and asset managers adopt Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to preserve heritage buildings. The framework consists of three main components: 1) Building Information Modeling (BIM) model, 2) Blockchain model, and 3) Chatbot model. The BIM model represents all information related to the heritage building, such as building component maintenance procedures, open maintenance tasks, maintenance location, maintenance life photos, and scheduled maintenance activities. The Chatbot model is used to mimic human interaction via text communication. Users get updated Building Information Modeling (BIM) data through pre-defined questions. The Blockchain model, on the other hand, is used to record and verify the data that the user updates. It validates the data update and creates immutable records that can enhance trust between parties. The proposed model allows asset stakeholders to request and update asset information via a trusted channel. An actual case study of Omar Toson Palace in Cairo, Egypt, is used to demonstrate the proposed framework’s capabilities.
