Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the differences of manual dexterity between the dominance and non-dominance side of Typical Development Children and Down Syndrome Children, assess gross manual dexterity using Box and Block Test assess fine manual dexterity using Nine Hole Peg Test, and estimate differences in gross and fine manual dexterity between Down Syndrome Children and Typical Development Children. Methods: For this purpose, 30 Typically Developing Children (control group) girls 14 and 16 boys and 30 Down syndrome children (study group) girls 16 and boys 14 , down syndrome had mild mental retardation (IQ:50-69) , ranged from 8-10 years from both sex participated in this study. Their manual hand dexterity was assessed by Box and Block test and Nine-hole Peg Test. Results: There was no significant difference in manual dexterity measures of Box and Block Test and Nine Hole peg Test between the dominant and nondominant sides in Down syndrome children , in Typical Development Children there was no significant difference in manual dexterity measures of BBT but there was a significant difference in NHPT measures between dominant and non -dominant sides, and there was a significant difference in BBT and NHPT measures between control and study group. Conclusions: there was a significant difference in gross and fine manual dexterity between Down Syndrome children and Typically Developing Children. |
