Abstract

The aims of this study were: To figure out the prevalence of early childhood caries in a group of Egyptian children in Giza governorate. To identify the possible risk factors by using self designed pre tested questionnaire. To create and test an audio visual aid for educating and raising awareness of overall oral health of infants and young children among their primary caregivers. The study sample consisted of of 1000 Egyptian child (male and female) their ages ranged from 2 - 4 years old, from Giza governorate The children were attending shabab Mubarak health unit in 6th of October city with their mothers, while vaccinating their little brothers or sisters, or to see paediatrician. In this study, one thousand child were included (489 males and 511 females) and the affected cases were found to be 171 cases including (53.8 %males and 46.2% females) In this study, the prevalence of ECC in Giza governorate, shabab Mubarak medical center, October 6th city, is 17.1%. Boys are more affected than girls (53.8% vs 46.2%). ECC was more common among breast fed children. ECC was more common among those children with prolonged periods of feeding and using bottle feeding during sleep. There is a significant lack of public awareness about children{u2019}s oral health
