Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate four cotton genotypes i.e, (G.80, G.90, the promising strain G.90 x Australy and [G.83 (G.75 x 5844)] x G.80. Samples of studied genotypes were taken from Regional Evaluation of cotton cultivar, Cotton Research Institute that were cultivated in six locations (Giza, El-Fayoum, Beni-Suef, El-Minya, Assiut and Sohag) in two seasons (2011 and 2012). Randomized Complete Blocks Design with three replications was used at each location. The present study was carried out to investigate: the effect of different locations, genotypes, seasons and their interactions on all parameters under study. And the relationship between studied characters and heat units. The different locations, genotypes and the interaction between them had significant effects on earliness, yield, yield components, fiber quality properties and fiber cross section characters. The promising strain [G.83 (G.75 x 5844)] x G.80) and G.90 x Australy surpassed the commercial varieties G.80 and G.90 in earliness, yield, yield components and fiber quality which recorded lower number of days to first flower and first open bolls, higher number of open bolls/plant, heavier boll weight, and as well higher averages of lint percentage, upper half mean length, fiber uniformity index, fiber strength, with lower micronaire reading and better values for cross section characters. Under the conditions of Sohag region compared to the other locations. In Sohag cotton plant was the highest efficient in the use of heat units compared to other locations. The best values averages were obtained from genotypes grown in Sohag region for almost all traits except reflectance degree and yellowness
