Abstract

Background: A lack of vitamin D (VDD) or iron (Ir) may result in a
number of health problems in youngsters, even if they show no symptoms.
The probable link between the two is still a mystery., Aim and objectives;
to study the prevalence of vit D deficiency among iron –deficient and
normal children, Subjects and methods; The research was conducted in
Aboelrish Pediatric Hospital Cairo University’s Hematology Outpatient
Clinic on 60 patients, 30 of whom had iron-deficient anaemia and 30 of
whom had normal anaemia (30 control subjects) , Result; There is
statistically significant positive correlation between vitamin D level and
both hemoglobin level, RDW and MCH. There is statistically significant
negative correlation between vitamin D level and serum ferritin,
Conclusion; Even while the link between vitamin D deficiency and
anaemia risk (particularly iron-deficiency anaemia) is still disputed, the
noncalcemic activities of the vitamin and its analogues have the potential
for a number of innovative therapeutic uses. However, several studies show
that vitamin D deficiency is directly linked to anaemia of chronic illness or
inflammation. Vitamin D may be able to mobilise iron reserves and
enhance erythropoiesis and haemoglobin production by reducing
proinflammatory cytokines and directly blocking hepcidin expression.,
