Abstract The geodesic regression model is considered one of the simplest parametric models used to find a relationship between a dependent variable from a manifold and an independent variable from the Euclidean space. This study aims to apply different regression estimation methodsto different spaces and compare the results. Two main regression estimation methods were studied; the geodesic regression proposed by Fletcher in 2011 and the robust geodesic regression proposed by Shin and Oh in 2020. The robust geodesic regression proved its efficiency over the geodesic regression in the existence of outliers using real and simulateddata. The Alzheimer’s disease neuroimaging initiative-1(ADNI-1)dataset was used to investigate the effect of age on the corpus callosum (CC) shapes in males with Alzheimer’s disease. Another comparison was made between the geodesic regression model proposed by Fletcher (2011) and the linear regressionmodel, and the results indicated that the geodesic regression was slightly different. |
