Abstract

This work was carried out in the fish laboratory of animal production department, faculty of agriculture, Cairo University. The study consisted of two experiments, experiment (I) was designed to investigate the efficiency of washout strategy on decreasing the deposit lenoleic (LA) in short period and the possibility to improve the tilapia fillet quality. Two different lipid sources soy oil (SO) and fish oil (FO) were used to generate three different feeding regime, SO diet continuously for 6 weeks, FO diet continuously for 6 weeks, and SO diet for 3-wk followed by FO diet for 3-wk (SO/FO) .Results of experiment (1) suggested that feeding tilapia FO-finishing diet continuously for 6 weeks recorded a decrease in {u0460}6 level, largely as LA which is desirable. Also fish performance or feed utilization did not significantly influenced compared with fish fed SO diet or SO/FO treatment. However, weight gain, tilapia continuously fed FO-finishing diet continuously showed the highest values numerically (63.74 ± 4.89), while a significant in feed intake was noticed for the same treatment. The fatty acid profile of viscera showed a great extent of fatty acid deposition including highly unsaturated fatty acid. Experiment (II) was designed to evaluate the potential replacement of soybean meal (SBM) by biofloc meal (BM) in tilapia diet. Three diets were formulated, control diet (without bioflocs) was compared with two other diets where 25, 50% of soybean protein was substituted by floc meal (FM). Dietary treatments had some impact on tilapia performance. The control diet showed the best growth performance results with no significant with 25% FM diet
