Abstract The present work investigates the waste heat utilization in cement plants to participate in solving the energy shortage problems. Seven different Rankine cycle schemes were suggested. For each scheme, the optimum working conditions were determined using Aspen HYSYS Simulator. The simulation covered a wide range of applicable temperatures and pressures. Different working fluids were investigated such as benzene, cyclo-hexane, n-hexane, n-heptane, methanol and ethanol. The net power output, cycle efficiency and irreversibility were calculated and compard with water. The simulation results included turbine power output, pumping power, heat loads of all heat exchangers, as well as, temperatures, pressures, flow rates and enthalpies of all streams. An economic study was carried out to determine the optimum power generation scheme. The study involved the calculation of capital cost and profitability analysis |
