Abstract This study aims to discuss and assess the removal efficiency for different concentrations of total dissolved solids in saline water by means of new system of desalination based on using green algae called Scenedesmus. Also to ensure the cost efficiency of the system, through comparing the production cost for several conventional systems of water desalination with the production cost for the desalted water produced by algae system. This new system has been used and tested in previous researches achieving high removal efficiency of total dissolved solids TDS from saline water. The results obtained were achieved high removal efficiency of total dissolved solids and the results obtained in the highest inlet concentration was inside the permissible limits for drinking water after the third basin. In addition to that, the production cost rates estimated were relatively affordable for possible uses in different purposes, this may succeed in solving the problem of high prices for desalted water produced from other processes with reduction in the cost to the minimum as possible |
