Abstract Staff development in professional are generally those of preparing staff to apply the previously acquired knowledge to patient care situation and acquire the kinds of professional and personal skills, attitudes and valuable thoughts essential for entering the health care system. The aim of the current study was to assess the perception of nursing staff about the effectiveness of staff nurse’s development program at a university hospital. An exploratory descriptive research design was utilized to fulfill the aim of the study. A convenient sample included (133 staff nurses and 17 nursing staff ) working in intensive care units. One tool was designed had two parts, the first part related to demographic data, second part a questioner was developed based on review of related literature to assess the perception of the sample about the effectiveness of staff nurse’s development program. The study findings showed a statistically significant difference between staff nurses and nursing staff perception in most of the dimensions as (nursing development programs effectiveness, the effectiveness of the nursing development programs on nursing performance, the effectiveness of nursing development programs on documents and recordings, the effectiveness of the nursing development programs to update and increase nursing information, the effectiveness of the nursing development programs on behavior and communication, program objectives |
