Abstract A retrospective study comparing different chemotherapy schedules whether induction, concomitant or concomitant followed by adjuvant in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. One hundred thirty six patients with histologically proven locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma presented to Kasr Eleiny center of clinical oOncology (NEMROCK) during the period from January 2007 till 2011 where included in this study form the data of hospital records. After complete diagnosis and staging work up, the patients were clustered into 5 treatment arms. Described as follows; Arm 1: concomitant chemo-radiotherapy (CCRTH), Arm 2: concomitant chemo-radiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy (CCRTH+A), Arm 3: neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus concomitant radiotherapy (N+CCRTH), Arm 4: neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus concomitant radiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy (N+CCRTH) or Arm 5: radiotherapy only (RTH). Arm 1 (CCRTH) was considered as the control arm. The follow up period for all treatment arms was 47.8 months. The overall response rate (ORR) was 60.7 % for Arm 1 compared to 66.67 % in Arm 2, 73.5 % in Arm 3, 50% in Arm 4 and 40% in Arm 5 |
