Abstract

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have become more prevalent over the past decade, and have helped improve postoperative management strategies.
Multimodal perioperative care pathways designed to achieve fast recovery after surgical procedures by maintaining preoperative organ function and reducing the profound stress response following surgery.
It have demonstrated that a multidisciplinary approach to perioperative care of surgical patients, with early diet advancement and ambulation, limitation of narcotics, and aggressive prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) can accelerate recovery, and lead to earlier discharge from the hospital, while maintaining patient safety.
The key elements of ERAS protocols include preoperative counselling, optimization of nutrition, standardized analgesic and anesthetic regimens and early mobilization.
The laparoscopic cholecystectomy approach has now clearly supplanted the open procedure as the standard approach to cholecystectomy. The laparoscopic approach offers smaller incisions, and reduced postoperative pain.
Several adult studies comparing same-day discharge (SDD) versus an overnight hospital stay (OHS) after laparoscopic cholecystectomy )LC( show no differences in mortality, adverse events, or readmission rates.
ERAS pathway optimize patient functional recovery , safe and decrease total hospital stay for elective patient undergoing to open or laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
