Abstract Children are Egypt{u2019}s single largest population group and their well-being today determines to a great extent the country{u2019}s current development. Children also determine Egypt{u2019}s future and its path to prosperity. Investing in its children is the best investment Egypt can make. Children{u2019}s health and wellbeing determine to a great extent the country{u2019}s wellbeing. We must know that there is a strong relation between child wellbeing and their poverty, in other words, we can say that Child welfare and child poverty are two sides of the same coin, as both of them reflect the children’s conditions. Therefore, expanding the definition of child poverty beyond traditional conceptualizations, such as low household income or low levels of consumption, is important. The purpose of this current thesis is to measure child wellbeing level by creating a micro-data child wellbeing index for a representative sample of Egyptian children and adolescents. Possible determinants of child wellbeing and child deprivation will be evaluated as well as providing a model to predict child wellbeing. In addition to applying Multiple Overlapping Deprivation Analysis, which is a UNICEF methodology of multidimensional child poverty, to determine the number of deprivations experienced by each child simultaneously and overlapping analysis as well |
