Abstract

The current research aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a strategy based on authentic podcasting on developing first-year secondary governmental language school students’ listening comprehension skills. To achieve this, the researcher constructed and validated a questionnaire, a listening comprehension skills test and a strategy based on podcasting. Participants included sixty students selected randomly and divided into an experimental group and a control one (thirty students in each group) from the first {u2013}year secondary students at Giza governorate, Hadabet Al- Haram Governmental Secondary school at Al-Haram Administration. Both groups were pre-tested using the listening comprehension skills test. Then, the researcher implemented the proposed authentic podcasting strategy on the experimental group students while the control group students were taught traditionally. After implementing the strategy, both groups were post-tested using the same tool utilized in the pre-testing. Findings of the research regarding the development of the students{u2019} levels of English listening comprehension skills showed a significant difference between both groups on the listening comprehension skills post-test in favor of the experimental group students. The researcher recommended that more attention should be given to teaching listening comprehension in the secondary stage
