Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of some dietary
antioxidants on performance, hematological parameters, biochemical and
immunological states of catfish exposed to toxicity with deltamethrin. In the
study, a total 120 fish were used and separated equally into 8 groups each
group contain 15 fish. group (A) fed the normal basal diet. group (B): fed
on Tribulus terrestris (TT) supplemented diet in dose 2 g/kg diet. group
(C): fed on Turmeric (TUR) supplemented diet in dose 8 g/kg diet. group
(D): fed on Spirulina platensis (SP) supplemented diet in dose 7.5 g/kg diet.
group (E): fed on commercial basal diet and exposed to deltamethrin (DM)
toxicity in dose 5.19 μg/L. Group(F): fed on TT supplemented diet in dose
2 g/kg diet and exposed to DM toxicity in dose 5.19 μg/L.Group(G): were
fed on TUR supplemented diet in dose 8 g/kg diet and exposed to DM
toxicity in dose 5.19 μg/L.group (H): fed on SP supplemented diet in dose
7.5 g/kg diet and exposed to DM toxicity in dose 5.19 μg/L. Concerning
performance parameters intial body weight, final body weight and body
weight gain showed a decrease in the group exposed to DM toxicity.
Concerning the hematological results, there was a normocytic
normochromic anemia in the infected non-treated group. The intoxicated
non treated group showed leukocytosis, lymphocytosis and neutrophilia.
Total protein and albumin showed signifncant decrease in the intoxicated
fish exposed to deltamethrin. ALT, AST and blood glu cose in the
intoxicated non-treated group showed an increment. Blood urea, creatinine
and uric acid showed significant increase in the intoxicated non-treated
Abstract
groups. The results of lipid profile expressed increase in blood
concentrations of cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C and VLDL-C with
decreased serum HDL-C in the intoxicated non treated group. MDA level
revealed an increment in the intoxicated non treated group meanwhile, CAT,
SOD, GSH and GST levels showed decrease in the intoxicated non treated
group. Concerning cytokines levels there were increase in the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β in intoxicated non treated group. Nitric oxide and lysozymes
activity demonstrated a significant increment in non treated intoxicated
group. The pretreatment of DM intoxicated fish with TT, TUR and SP
significantly ameliorated the former parameters. The dietary TT, TUR and
SP possess ameliorative effect to DM intoxication through their antioxidant
potential
