Abstract

Big data refers to the vast number of both structured and unstructured data that is difficult to process using traditional software approaches or conventional statistical methodologies. Because of the volume of data produced, the aviation industry is a classic candidate for the use of big data technologies. The purpose of the study is to assess and analyze the application of big data in EGYPTAIR Airlines, illustrating the current situation of big data analytics applications in EGYPTAIR Airlines, identifying the awareness of big data phenomenon in EGYPTAIR Airlines, investigating the challenges of using big data analytics applications in EGYPTAIR Airlines and presenting suggestions to EGYPTAIR Airlines management on how to apply and improve the role of big data analytics in decision making. A descriptive analytical method was adopted in the study. A questionnaire was developed and distributed to a random sample of 396 EGYPTAIR Airlines staff (102 managers and 294 employees).
The study’s findings contribute to the research area of exploring and testing the application of big data analytics to improve decision making in EGYPTAIR. The research shows that big data has major benefits in providing broad opportunities for EGYPTAIR Airlines management, enhancing flexibility in dealing with each passenger, problem solving, supporting decision making, growing predictive maintenance and improving performance. Challenges of big data adaptation have been mentioned as deficiency of big data employees training programs. After discussing the findings of the research, a conclusion was extracted and several recommendations were suggested to EGYPTAIR Airlines.
