Abstract Background: Studies have discussed efficacy of ticagrelor and clopidogrel in carotid stenting. Objectives: Aim of work is to compare safety and efficacy of ticagrelor versus clopidogrel in patients underwent carotid artery stenting. Subjects and Methods: It is a hospital-based study carried on clinically definite 70 Egyptian patients who underwent carotid artery stenting and received dual antiplatelet therapy prior to procedure, 35 of them received ticagrelor and the other 35 received clopidogrel. All subjects were recruited from stroke unit at Ain Shams University Hospitals, age and sex matched in the two groups. All subjected to full detailed history, clinical assessment- using mRS score and NIHS score immediately before and after procedure, one week and one month after procedure-, blood venous sample to measure platelets count, lipid profile and INR, CT angiography, carotid Duplex and MRI brain before and after procedure. All subjects were assessed after 7 and 30 days for postoperative cerebral stroke, myocardial infarction, intracranial haemorrhage, major bleeding and death. Results: Regarding post procedural MRI brain, complications and mRS, there was no statistical significance between both groups. Regarding NIHSS post procedural; there was high significant statistical decrease in ticagrelor group patients than those of the clopidogrel group after one week and one month. Conclusion: Ticagrelor has a great effect compared to clopidogrel on patient’s disability post-carotid stenting in the form of significant decreasing NIHSS. |
