Abstract In the present investigation, Phycosynthesis and characterization of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and their application as antimicrobial agents were investigated. SeNPs were phycosynthesized using cell-free extract of the brown macroalgae, Cystoseira barbata (C. barbata), AgNPs were also prepared using cell-free extract C. barbata against Candida spp. (C. albicans, C. glabrata and C. parapsilosis). SeNPs were phycosynthesized using cell-free extract of the red macroalgae Corallina mediterranea (C. mediterranea) against foodborne bacteria spp. (Salmonella typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus). The detail characterization of the NPs was carried out using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, Zeta potential (ζ), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. |
