Abstract Background:Vitamin D plays an important role in increasing the absorption of calcium and phosphate from food, its status in childhood may also play an important role in the prevention of early childhood caries.Early childhood caries is a chronic childhood disease has been a major public health problem over many years and still continues today. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to clarify the prevalence of early childhood caries in Egyptian children with serum vitamin D deficiency and to determine if vitamin D deficiency is a risk marker for (ECC). Patients and Methods: The study was conducted on two hundred and ninety-four Egyptian children with vitamin D deficiencywere enrolled from Abo el Rish hospital Malnutrition clinic, Cairo University.A structured questionnaire was administered for parents followed by an oral examination and laboratory investigationfor each child. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics Version 20 for Windows. The significance level was set at P {u2264} 0.05 |
