Abstract

The present study was aimed to evaluate the effect of garlic, ginger, turmeric and a mixture of garlic, ginger, turmeric (1:2:2 respectively) on rumen physical, cellular, biochemical constituents and blood cellular and biochemical constituents in apparently healthy Egyptian sheep. The study carried out on 27 clinically healthy sheep, belonging to Department of Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University. Their ages ranged from 1.5-2.5 years, and their body weights ranged from 30 - 45kg (mean weight 35.9 kg). Sheep were divided during the period of 26/11/2016 to 4/2/2017 into groups: The first group included five Ewes considered as control group, fed on traditional offered ration, the second (experimental group): divided as follows: First experimental group: five ewes were given garlic powder (500mg/kg body weight orally) before feeding for 5 days. Second experimental group: five ewes were given ginger powder (500mg /kg body weight orally) before feeding for 5 days. Third experimental group: five ewes were given turmeric powder (500mg /kg body weight orally) before feeding for 5 days. Fourth experimental group: seven ewes were given a mixture of garlic, ginger and turmeric (1:2:2 respectively) as 500mg /kg body weight orally before feeding for 5 days
