Abstract

The study was aimed to evaluate the cigarette filter characteristics i.e. ventilation, pressure DROP and retention of tar and nicotine as affected by components used. The characteristics of cigarettes were improved by increasing the cellulose acetate in the filter from 200 mg / cigarette to 210 mg / cigarette. The nicotine retention, tar retention and cigarette pressure DROP were increased by about 19%, 12% and 9%, respectively. While the cigarette ventilation decreased by about 1%. At 2 and 4 rows an improvement in nicotine and tar retention efficiency was recorded by about 1% and 4% and 2% and 4%, respectively. Cigarette ventilation was also increased by about 13% and 18%, respectively. While cigarette pressure DROP was decreased by about 6% and 18%. At 67 and 68 mmWG were used, the nicotine retention and tar retention cigarette filter were increased by about 7% and 5%, and 2% and 28%, respectively. Cigarette pressure DROP also was increased by about 17% and 26% respectively. At 8000 CU in tipping paper, nicotine retention, tar retention and ventilation were increased by about 5%, 2% and 7% respectively. While Pressure DROP of cigarette was decreased by 10%. The modified sample (at 200 mg cellulose acetate, 8000 CU and tipping paper at 2 rows) was the best and it had high consumer acceptability (72) and almost had the same characteristics as foreign samples (72, 72, 74 and 72). In addition it had the same cost as the already processed cigarettes
