Abstract

The present investigation was initiated in the Plant Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Saba Basha, Alexandria University, and Cotton Research Institute-Spinning research Department, Giza-Egypt during 2016 to 2018 seasons.
The aim of this study is to examine the changes in single fiber properties using the commercial instruments i.e., AFIS (advanced fiber information system), HVI (high volume instrument) and stelometer instrument. Bundle test results in raw cotton bales and cotton samples taken at the end of each process stage of spinning. All the bales were commercial bales of Giza 86 Egyptian cotton hand-picked, were taken progressively after each of four processing stages, namely, carding, 2nd drawings, combing and roving. At the end of preparation process 50 g of card, drawing, combing and roving slivers were collected from each sample for AFIS.
By establishing the relations between and among the data sets, the idea is to frame a concept of quality/process control in spinning by use of AFIS data. Furthermore, the study is to recommend an expanded AFIS output for accomplishing the objectives in coming years.
The completely randomized design with five replicates and factorial arrangement were used to carry out and analyzed the effect of spinning processing stages yarn types and their interactions on yarn properties.
