Abstract The present work proposes that urban environments can lead to change in values{u2019} tendencies (individualistic and collectivistic). The main objective of this research is to delineate a framework for the relationship between socio-cultural values of a group and the elements of its urban environment, and to investigate the role of an urban setting and elements in shaping, influencing and changing values. The research was developed through 3 main and consecutive stages. The 1st stage combines reviews and presentations of selected theoretical studies on 2values3 and related topics. The 2nd stage represents the analytical part, covering selected approaches linking values to environments. The two stages collectively provide the conceptual bases for the 3rd stage; where the relational framework/model that delineates the relationship between values and urban environments is formulated, developed and tested. The developed and validated model supported the work propositions that; the more complex the environment an individual lives in, the more complex his identity is, and the more individualistic values he is likely to hold and vice versa |
