Abstract We skeletonized many anterior and dorsal upper limb perforators located at nearly fixed sites and of enough diameters that can vascularize many upper limb flaps. Perforator flaps of the upper limb can be harvested as fascial or fasciocutaneous for coverage of nearby defects. The upper limb was found to be a generous donor for both free and local flaps which can be used broadly in the field of reconstructive surgery. The original version of the first flap harvested from the upper limb; Chinese flap was criticized due to sacrifice of a main arterial axis in the hand and the ugly scar left after its harvest. This led to many innovative techniques and description of new flaps from the upper limb aiming to minimize its donor site morbidity. Our present study aimed to study the upper limb perforators and the possibility to harvest many flaps based upon them by keeping the major vascular axes in the hand and keeping the skin intact. We recommend other future anatomical studies based on cadaveric dissection for more and more accurate assessment of the upper limb perforators and their angiosomal distribution |
