Abstract

”In vitro maturation (IVM) protocols have been applied for patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)cycles with controlled ovarian hyper stimulation or non-stimulated cycles. The use of IVM in stimulated cycles particularly has benefits for women with poor response to gonadotropin treatment, diminished ovarian reserve, premature ovarian failure and for those undergoing cryopreservation cycles for medical or social indications. The main goal of IVM for these patients would be to maximize the number of mature oocytes available for potential fertilization. Different types of media for IVM have been applied such as human tubal fluid, culture medium 199 and blastocyst medium. Besides the commercially available MediCult IVM media and Sage IVM media that are often used with reasonable implantation and pregnancy rates. However, applying these special formulated commercial media has several disadvantages, such as 1. Limited shelf life. 2. More cost than standard culture media for assisted In vitro fertilization (IVF) centers, where IVM services are not routinely performed. In IVM the harvested immature oocytes are placed in a specific culture medium for maturing over a period of 1-2 days. After that, ICSI is performed for in vitro matured oocytes (Metaphase II), the rates of fertilization and embryo development followed up to the blastocyst stage. This study aims to compare the performance of different types of IVM media on germinal vesicles in stimulated intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles to maximize the number of mature oocytes available for potential fertilization. Three media were used : 1. Single step culture medium (life global medium). 2. Homemade medium. 3. Commercial medium (Sage IVM medium).
