Abstract

Aquaculture is considered one of the most successful agricultural sectors in Egypt, The Egyptian production has grown steadily from 705.5 thousand tons in 2009 to 1.642 million tons in 2019, with a growth rate exceeding 232.7% over the past decade (Ali and Aboyadak, 2021). Aquaculture has participated in the Egyptian gross domestic product (GDP) with 48 billion L.E. 6.5 billion of them are representing the value of cultured Seabass, Seabream, and Meager. Aquaculture represented 1.08% of Egyptian GDP in 2017/2018 and 0.7% in 2018/2019, despite the massive losses associated with summer mortality syndrome that occurred during this year (GAFRD, 2020).Meagre (Argyrosomus regius) is considered the most promising fish for mariculture in Egypt. The Egyptian production of cultured Meagre has grown steadily during the past decade from 2,200 tons in 2009 to 5,884 tons in 2014 and then reached 25,320 tons in 2019 (Ali and Aboyadak, 2021). Egypt is the leading producer of cultured A. regius worldwide. In 2016, Egyptian production was 16,162 tons, representing 69% of the total global output estimated at 23,440 tons (Kruzic et al., 2016; GAFRD, 2018; FAO, 2021).
