المستخلص The research aimed at determine the effectiveness of A program Based on Contextual Theory to Developing Extended Lexical Unit ,and Reading Comprehension Skills (Shallow and deep) of Secondary Stage Students. The researcher included the following procedures: 1. Preparing a list of the skills of building the extended linguistic unit that should be developed for students of the second year of secondary school. 2. Testing the skills of building the extended linguistic unit for the second year secondary students. 3. Preparing a list of reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) that should be developed for students of the second year of secondary school. 4. Testing the reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) of second year secondary students. 5. Preparing a program based on contextual theory. 6. Preparing a guide for the teacher to teach the program based on contextual theory. 7. Choosing the two research groups (the control and experimental) from the students of the second year of secondary school. 8. Applying the Extended Lexical Unit building skills test and reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) test to the two research groups first, then teaching the program to the experimental group, then applying the Extended Lexical Unit building skills test and reading comprehension test to the two research groups after. After the completion of the experiment, a statistical treatment was carried out for the scores of the two groups (control and experimental), and the following results were reached: •There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of the students of the experimental and control groups in the post application to test the skills of building the extended linguistic unit in favor of the experimental group. • There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of the students of the experimental and control groups in the post application of the reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) test in favor of the experimental group. • The program, which is based on contextual theory, is acceptable to the extent effective in developing the skills of building the extended linguistic unit and reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) for second grade secondary students. Recommendation of the research: • Employing the skills of building the extended linguistic unit, and reading comprehension skills (Shallow and deep) in all branches of the Arabic language, and other study subjects. • Interest in employing modern linguistic and semantic theories in acquiring and developing various linguistic skills such as the extended linguistic unit, and the necessary reading comprehension, including contextual theory. |
