Abstract Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation are routinely used for cataract surgery worldwide with an important role in postoperative rehabilitation. UBM provides a safe, precise and reliable imaging of the anterior segment and IOL. UBM provides reliable information on the anterior segment structures including crystalline lens, ciliary body, and lens zonules. It also enables quantitation of the measurements and visualization of surrounding posterior chamber structures that may be hidden from clinical observation. The main aim of this study was to study changes in the anterior segment after cataract surgery and IOL implantation by means of ultrasound biomicroscopy. This was a prospective study carried on 20 patients with cataract. These patients were examined with UBM before and a month after surgery. All investigations were carried out at Zagazig university hospitals. The duration of the study ranged from August 2020 to January 2021. The study revealed high statistically significant difference between pre and postoperative measures according to ACD, ACA and AOD500 microns. Based on our findings, we recommend for further studies on larger sample size and on large geographical scale to emphasize our conclusion. |
