Abstract The existence of gastrointestinal and blood parasitic infection among horses was studied at animal care hospital in luxor Governorate. A total number of 100 horse, 63 male, 28 female and 9 foal were examined during the extended period from March 2020 till the end of Feberuary 2021. Three species of gastrointestinal parasites (Parascaris equorum, Strongylus vulgaris and Balantidium coli) were detected by fecal examination( direct examination,sedimentation and floatation techniques) and one blood parasite ( Trypansoma evansi) were detected by blood examination (thin and thick blood film). Parascaris equorum revealed 5% , Strongylus vulgaris revealed 9%, Balantidium coli 1% and Trypansoma evansi 1%. Males and foal horses were more susceptible to infection with gastrointestinal parasites than females . Strongylus vulgaris was highest during winter while Trypansoma evansi was highest during spring. Good deworming programme participate in decreasing the infection rate with gastrointestinal parasites and regular examination,treatment and control decreasing blood parasites |
