Abstract The vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) is necessary for stabilizing vision by stabilizing images on the retina during head movement.Patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction (UVH) have impaired VOR; because of reducing neuronal activity reaching the ipsilesional vestibular nuclei compared with that reaching the contralateral vestibular nuclei. This current study was designed to evaluate VHIT in patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction and to correlate between results of caloric test and VHIT. The study included forty subjects with bilateral normal peripheral hearing divided into two groups: 20 subjects group (G1) as a control group, and 20 subjects with unilateral vestibular hypofunction group (G2). All subjects were submitted to a detailed clinical history, otoscopic examination, basic audiological evaluation including pure tone audiometry (Air and bone conduction) and speech audiometry; (SRT and WD). |
