Abstract

This research presents the utilization of a new composite material that have become common use in building materials. This material consists of two parts, the first part includes the matrix and the second part represents the fiber. There are two phases of fiber the synthetic fibers as Carbon, Glass, Aluminum, Aluminum Oxide, Boron, etc, and natural fibers as banana, Jute, Coir, Silk, Bamboo, Coconuts, etc. Synthetic fibers are the most common used, so, it has been directed in this research to banana fibers that are generally from plant wastes and therefore are considered without cost. This research is based on the identification of banana fibers and their impact on the flexure behavior of concrete.
This thesis aims to improve the properties of the concrete beams by using different type of reinforcement (bars of banana fiber, steel and Hybrid fiber). This goal can be attached with many experimental programs and numerical analysis have been conducted to determine the ability of bananas to improve concrete properties. The physiochemical properties of fiber have been studied. Based on this study, the most important factors that affect the performance of the reinforced concrete beams reinforced with banana fiber bars compared with plain concrete and reinforced concrete beams were studied . Moreover, the effect of banana fiber bars ratio, grade of concrete, and the influence of the hybrid fiber that contains banana and glass fiber are analyzed. The experimental studies are carried out based on fourteen models of concrete beams with various parameters using experimental program and finite element analysis (ANSYS) to study the performance of banana fibers bars in reinforced beams. The influence of the hybrid fiber bars and the effect of banana fibers bars on the beams comparing to traditional steel bars are analyzed.
from this research, it became clear that natural fibers increase flexure strength that contributes to reduce the depth of a section and also banana fibers as reinforcement for concrete beams contribute to increased flexural strength by 25 % compared to plain concrete, and they also contribute in range of 60 % of the flexure strength made by using traditional steel bars for the same grade.
